You'll never know unless you try.

Driving in LA you can't help but see some pretty awesome cars, but seeing them three days in a row is a different story. Kris's white 1969 Volkswagen Beetle stuck out in a great way, so after seeing his car again and again I figured I had to stop it and ask if I could take some photos so that's exactly what I did.

Early one morning I jumped out of my car at a stop sign to pass on a card to Kris and said I'd love to photograph him in the car and to get in touch if he was interested. No I don't normally run up to people like this or jump out of the car to hand off a card, but I thought why not. So figuring I'd never hear from him again, I was pumped when I got an instagram message saying let's make it happen! Later that week we met up to talk about cameras and shoot around Highland Park.

Right away I loved Kris's style; with his slicked back hair, and cuffed Dickies, he reminded me of myself in my highschool days. We started  things off in front of Civil Coffee and the Highland Park Bowl (two places you should check out if you're in the area), then we jumped in the car and went for a drive to get some action shots. There's really nothing like cruising around in a vintage car, the road seems different somehow as it almost transports you to a different time. Though our drive was a quick one it was a fun one.

After a bit we headed back and found a great spot just behind where we had started that gave us a cool "back alley" feel that we loved. A few shots later and it was time to head off. I'm really glad I got the chance to spend some time with Kris, and that he was willing to do some modeling with his car, especially because I was the guy that jumped out of a car hand handed him a business card randomly one morning.

The real thing I wanted to share though was that you'll never know what can happen unless you try. Too many times I know I get in my own way of making things happen as I'm sure many of us do, and I'll be the first to admit that taking chances can be tough. However, if I hadn't handed off my card that morning I never would have gotten the chance to photograph and spend some time with such a great guy, and worse I wouldn't have some great images to share with all of you.

If you want to see some of Kris's photography check out his blog here, and the next time you have a crazy idea go out and do it because you just never know what might happen.
